Mr. Bottorff has a ceramic sharpening system called the Razor Sharp Edegmaking System. The system is simple it consist of two compressed paper wheels. These wheels fit on a standard Grinder or Buffer, This unit can be attained at your local Harbor Freight outlet at around $50.00.

The unit needs to be able to gain 3000 rpm or higher.

The first wheel a Sharpening or Gritted wheel needs a coating of Silicon with carbide grit. This is placed onto the sharpening wheel to develop a Burr or Wire edge.Keeping the wheel cool is a must to ensure that a Conditioning Wax is applied to the Gritted or Sharpening wheel.

The Sec Wheel is very important to this Set of wheels in this 2 part System. This wheel is named the Stropping wheel.this wheel is uncoated, Though to ensure a a finished edge a Jewlers Rouge is used in small amounts,This compound removes the Burrs or wire edge ,polishes or storps the edge The Sharpening wheel will Sharpen a Couple Hundred Knives before replacing its coating. No need to recoat after each knife. Both wheels are 3/4" wide Trued& Balanced to sharpen your Ceramic Knife.

This is a tried and true method. Hold your knife to be sharpened at a 20 degree angle to ensure a 20 degree bevel. with the blade keeping a Horizontal plane move the blade up the wheel for a smaller , sharper edge. Reversing or going down the wheel makes a stronger edge. Safety note: The wheel rotation is clockwize, and Safety Glasses or a Full Faceshield must be worn.

One other Caution!! When using any highspeed Sharpening Equipment , with the wheel moving off the edge it can cause a non-locking folding knife too snap closed . So keep your fingers out of harms way!
